About Purl by Pearl
I am Monika, the maker behind Purl by Pearl — a natural yarn dyer inspired by the changing seasons, traditional craft, and the landscape surrounding my countryside home. Raised in Sweden with Austrian family roots, I developed an early connection to nature, foraging, and crafting, influences that continue to shape my work today.
Working with plants gathered from the wild and from my own cottage garden, I create richly coloured yarns using natural dye methods. My collections focus on carefully selected yarn bases, including a vegan range, with sustainability at the heart of every decision. All yarns are completely plastic-free, reflecting my commitment to natural materials and mindful making.
Alongside my hand-dyed yarns, I also create stitchmarkers and notions using gemstones, thrifted treasures, and vintage beads, designed to bring beauty and individuality to knitting and crochet projects.
A passionate knitter, crocheter, and weaver myself, I believe handmade textiles connect us to both creativity and nature. My colour palettes are deeply inspired by the plants, seasons, and quiet beauty of the countryside around me.
My love for fibre crafts began very early — my dad taught me to crochet when I was around six years old, and from that moment I was hooked. Creating with yarn has been part of my life ever since, and I feel incredibly lucky to now share that passion through my work.
When I am not dyeing yarn or making notions, I am usually still immersed in some kind of craft project. I live with my husband, who you may spot helping me at festivals and fibre events, and together we share our home with three dogs and two cats. We love spending time outdoors and heading off in our camper van for little adventures, always inspired by the landscapes, plants, and colours we discover along the way.
